“I started Sunset Deck in 2014 because I kept seeing stain sprayed over dirt, splinters and rotten boards, then peeling by the next spring. We do the slow version. Clean it right, sand it smooth, replace what's failing and brush the stain in by hand. Then we photograph it, so you can see exactly what you paid for.”
Our cedar deck was gray and splintery. After sanding and a semi-transparent Cabot stain it looks better than the day we bought the house. The before and after photos are unreal.

Andre told us our composite deck only needed a deep clean, not the full package. Honest advice and a fair price.

Our stain work carries a 3-year finish warranty. Horizontal boards take the most punishment from snow and sun, so a yearly clean helps them go well past that.
Only with low-pressure fan tips and a deck-safe sodium percarbonate cleaner. High pressure gouges soft wood and raises the grain, which is why so many washed decks feel fuzzy afterward.
Brushing and back-rolling pushes stain into the grain instead of leaving a film on top. It takes longer, but it lasts longer and peels far less.
We point them out during the measure and replace them before any stain goes on, with matching lumber from $15 a board. No sense staining wood that's about to fail.
Late spring through early fall. Stain needs about 48 dry hours above 50°F. Fall is a smart time to seal, so the boards go into winter protected.
