Atlanta termite season runs March through May, with peak swarming in April. If you see flying termites inside your house during this window, you don't just have a yard issue — you have an active infestation.
How to identify termite swarmers
Termite swarmers are dark brown to black, about 1/4 inch long, with two pairs of wings of equal length. They lose their wings shortly after swarming, so finding wings on windowsills is a common indicator.
The 48-hour window
If you see termite swarmers indoors, call within 48 hours. The earlier we treat, the less damage. Termites can eat through 2x4 framing in 6-8 weeks of active infestation.
Sentricon vs. liquid barrier
Sentricon (bait stations around the perimeter) is the gold standard for prevention. We install once + monitor annually. Average $1,800 install + $349/yr monitoring. Best for proactive prevention.
Liquid barrier (injecting termiticide into soil around the foundation) is best for active infestations. Treats the existing colony. $1,200-2,800 depending on linear feet.
What to do if you see termites
- Photograph what you see (swarmers, wings, mud tubes)
- Call us for a free inspection
- Don't spray over-the-counter — it disperses them but doesn't kill the colony
- Don't sign anything from door-knockers (storm-chaser pest control is a real problem)
Every Atlanta home should have an annual termite inspection. They're free at our office. The cost of missing one early can be five figures.
Free termite inspections, any time. Call us — we'll be out within 48 hours.
