Every spring we get the same question from Phoenix homeowners: "My AC is 13 years old, still works, do I really need to replace it before summer?" Honest answer: usually yes. Here's the math.
The 3-month repair rule
If your AC is 12+ years old and you've called us for two or more repairs in the last 18 months, the math has tilted. Average repair on a 12+ year unit runs $400-650. Two of those = $1,300. A new SEER2 system installed runs $5,400-8,400. You're 20% into the cost of a new system before the new one even arrives.
Off-season install discount: $400-800
From October through March, we install new systems at 5-12% lower pricing than April-September. Why? Same crew, same equipment, but our schedules aren't slammed. We can do a full install in one day with a 4-person crew. In July we're triple-booked.
The summer disaster premium
When your AC dies in July, you pay roughly 8-15% more on the install AND you pay for any emergency stopgap (window units, hotel night, etc.) AND you pay for the repair attempt before the install decision happens. Total premium for replacing in August vs March: usually $700-1,200.
The cheapest time to buy a new AC is when you don't need one yet.
Free Phoenix inspections any time. We tell you straight — your system has 3 years left, 2 years, or it's time. No scare tactics.
